Thank you, Timo Boll, for visiting our HQ on your last day as a professional athlete – and for your incredible contributions to the sport of table tennis and to society. 👏 Borussia Düsseldorf e.V.
Not every career ends with a rally – but this one did. And what a rally it was. We had the honor of welcoming Timo Boll to Henkel for a very special occasion: his last day as a professional athlete. Timo is more than a record-breaking table tennis legend. He’s a role model – known not just for his titles, but for leading with humility, quiet determination, and integrity. His story has inspired many, myself included. To celebrate his remarkable journey, we even faced off in a symbolic match. Let’s just say one of us had the better footwork... And thanks to another quick match using VR glasses, we also got a glimpse of what the future of sport might look like! As a tribute to what Timo stands for off the table – team spirit, fairness, and inclusion – Henkel marked the occasion with two donations: ➡️ €10,000 for Kinderhilfe Organtransplantation (KiO) ➡️ €5,000 for Bunt geht’s rund, Borussia Düsseldorf’s integration project Thank you, Timo, for being an inspiration on and off the court. And a big thanks to Andreas Preuß, Valentin Baus, Anton Källberg, Danny Heister and the Borussia Düsseldorf e.V. team for joining us in this special send-off. A memorable farewell. A true role model. “It’s not just about work – it’s about purpose.” I invited Leonie (Hartmann), a Gen Z colleague at Henkel, to join me for my “A Coffee with Sylvie” video talk. We spoke about what her generation expects from the world of work. By 2030, Gen Z will make up 30% of the global workforce, and they’re bringing new expectations around #purpose, #sustainability, inclusion, and flexibility. What impressed me most was not just the clarity of these expectations, but the courage to voice them. In Leonie’s words: “We are more vocal, because we know companies need talent – and we want more than a 9 to 5. We want impact.” At Henkel, we’re on a journey – building a culture that is open, inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in our values. That includes listening deeply to voices like Leonie’s. As she said so powerfully: “If we want to build real sustainability and culture – it has to be from the inside out.” My takeaway? Gen Z isn’t asking for too much. They’re asking the right questions.
